There really is a baby in there!

We heard the heartbeat yesterday. And it was probalby the coolest thing I have ever heard, hearing a heartbeat from inside of me that isn't mine.

At our last doctor's appointment we were at 12 weeks and unable to hear it. Even though the doctor assured me that this was normal since the baby is so small and there is so much "stuff" in the way, I still have been worried for the last two and a half weeks.

But all my fears were put to rest yesterday as I lay there in total awe as we heard our baby's heartbeat for the very first time and it confirmed that yes, there really is a baby in there. Finally some definitive proof!

We also recorded it so we can listen to it as often as we feel, and of course family members have also been subjected to guessing what the "whoosh whoosh" is over the phone.

Now in three weeks just before we leave we'll be going for our ultrasound, hopefully we'll find out the gender!

Surprise!

We had a lovely surprise this Saturday evening. Mike and I headed over to Megan's for what we thought was going to be an evening of dinner and a movie. As we headed into her living room we were greeted with all our friends yelling, "SURPRISE!", and it was.

As anyone who knows me knows, I love surprises and am always totally flattered that someone would go to all the trouble to plan one out for me.

There were decorations (including balloons, whee!), food, booze, and even special fancy beverages just for me (oh yeah, if you didn't already know I'm pregnant, tee hee). The combination goodbye/baby shower was just fabulous and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Oh, and Megan had found a Wiggles pinata which I had the joy of breaking as yummy chocolate came pouring out.

Anyways, the whole party was so thoughtful, greatly appreciated, and such a nice way to bring our life here to a close.

Zodiac

In honour of our soon-to-be new home town Mike and I went to see Zodiac last night. Despite the fact it was almost three hours long which in my opinion is too long to sit in a movie theatre I really enjoyed it. I love movies which are based on true stories and this one was fascinating.

While it certainly was a long movie and I was getting extremely uncomfortable by the end, there was so much information to get through that I don't think it could have been much shorter. All in all it was a great film and I highly recommend seeing it.

Har de har

At work I must answer the phone as follows: "I'm glad you called Highland Lake, this is Corrine..."

Every once in a while someone replies with "Well I'm glad I called too Corrine!"

I don't know why this irritates me so much but it makes me feel immediately hostile to the caller. I'm actually not at all glad you called, in fact I'm irritated and borderline angry that you have called. And if you think you're being funny you are sadly mistaken.

Thank God I have less than a month of this left, my last nerve is wearing thin.

Goodbye Florida

During our tenure here in Atlanta I've been to Florida four times. I had always wanted to visit Florida and while here we took full advantage of our close proximity. I had built it up as a tropical paradise, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Last week Megan joined me on my last trip for a long time to Florida. Mike's parents invited us to their time share in Panama City on the Guld of Mexico Panhandle and it was simply lovely. Both M and I needed to get out of Atlanta for a few days and relax, and we had a wonderful time.

Mike has received tentative job offers from both his San Francisco interviews, so hopefully we'll have confirmation later this week and we can be on our merry way by month's end. I have already given my notice at work and my last day is scheduled for March 14. I may work a couple extra days, but I need time to pack, organize, and just take care of myself.

And what would a Monday post be without a quick rant? It drives me crazy when people yell into their cell phones. I understand if you're in a loud environment you may need to speak louder, but it really isn't necessary in a small and echo-y office. Thanks for listening.
