The Road to Guantanamo

Mike and I watched this docu-drama last night, and I am disturbed. It follows the story of three British Muslims who were pretty much in the wrong place at the wrong time (and completely innocent which would have been easy to prove in far less time than they were held for) and ended up in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for several years all the while being tortured for information on terrorists.

The torture that they had to endure was shocking and cruel, and while they did temporarily "confess" it was most certainly under duress. What really gets me though is how these men were accused of being at certain Al Qaida rallies when they had perfectly air-tight alibis in Britain. Rather than torturing (physically and mentally) people and holding them for years would you not check into their stories? What happened to innocent until proven guilty? In addition to this being totally inhumane treatment, it is a waste of tax payer money as well. The whole thing is disgusting. I can only imagine the type of boot camp these soldiers must have had to endure to be able to treat fellow humans in such a manner.

Not initially. They were captured by the Northern Alliance with other suspected Taliban fighters.
