An Inconvenient Truth

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

Seriously, it was informative/scary/shocking/amazing. If you normally shy away from documentary type movies, fear not. An Inconvenient Truth is anything but boring.

Not knowing much if anything about Al Gore, let me say that it is seriously tragic this man didn't beat GWB. Boo.

So the movie. Wow. Global warming may not seem like a big deal to some people, but, well, basically we're fucked if we don't take action now. Some of the impacts that may/will be felt by 2050 or sooner include:

• extinction of thousands of species
• ocean levels up by 20 feet (yeah, you'll be underwater in some of Van)
• an increase in heat waves causing thousands of deaths
• increase in droughts/wildfires
• increase in tropical storms/hurricanes

And these are broad general catagories let me tell you. For local impact take a look at the pine beetle infestation in BC.

Things you can do to help stop global warming:

• switch your lightbulbs to energy efficient compact flourescent bulbs
• drive less (walk, bike, take the bus, carpool)
• RECYCLE!!!
• Check your tires and ensure they're properly inflated
• use less hot water
• avoid packaging
• adjust your thermostat (just 2 degrees makes a huge difference)
• plant a tree
• turn off electronic devices when you're not using them

So you can see you don't need a hybrid to make an impact. Every little bit counts!!

If you're in the global warming is a theory camp I can't even begin to get into the science that is detailed in this film to back up that it's a fact.

If you don't think that global warming isn't going to affect you in your lifetime think again. And think about what kind of world you want to leave for your children and grandchildren.

Ok, I'm getting off my soapbox, but I really think everyone should see this movie, and if it's not playing where you live (sorry Ktown) get it when it comes out on video.
